Diamonds (Third Party): Overview and Strats

The Fulfiller Diamonds is a third-party role in Deck Mafia with the goal of revealing specific information tied to players who hold one of the Diamond Cards. By successfully revealing the information three times, the Fulfiller wins the game and leaves as a victor. Here's an optimal strategy guide for playing this unique role.

Primary Objective:

  • Goal: Reveal information about players holding Diamond cards at least three times in the game. This information will be shared with the group at the start of each following day, fulfilling your mission.
  • Challenge: You don’t have direct killing power or strong defenses, but the flavor soup kill mechanic gives the Scum faction or Serial Killer an incentive to eliminate players who claim to hold Diamond cards. This puts you in a vulnerable position, as these factions will want to exploit the situation for their own benefit.

How Diamond Cards Work:

  • There are 12 Diamond cards, each offering specific information, ranging from revealing alignments to cards and items. Seven players will randomly receive these cards, and they won't know the identities of the other holders.
  • Each night, you target one player. If they hold a Diamond card, the information tied to that card will be revealed in the thread at the start of the following day.

Diamond Cards Overview:

  • 2-5 of Diamonds: These reveal basic player details like card abilities, alignments, and night visit information.
  • 6-9 of Diamonds: These provide game-wide information, such as alignment counts or cards of dead players.
  • 10-Ace of Diamonds: These reveal alignment-related info or confirm who is part of certain factions, with the Ace of Diamonds revealing the number of anti-town parties in the previous day’s wagon.

Strategic Playstyle and Tips:

1. Early Game: Start Observing and Gathering Information

  • Your first task is to identify who might hold Diamond cards. Pay attention to players who are being less aggressive, as they may not want to expose their Diamond card too early. Also, consider players who are dropping hints about knowing specific game information, as they may have already used a Diamond card ability.
  • Don’t rush into making yourself a target. Keep a low profile while observing how players interact. Your goal is to survive long enough to use your ability three times, so don’t risk unnecessary attention.

2. Target High-Profile Players Early On:

  • Players who hold more impactful Diamond cards (like the Ace of Diamonds or Queen of Diamonds) are more likely to be key members of the game. Try targeting them first to gain early information that can shape the game and help you identify potential threats (especially anti-town factions).
  • The Jack of Diamonds and Ace of Diamonds are particularly useful for getting valuable information on group factions and whether players share private threads with others.

3. Use Social Dynamics to Your Advantage:

  • Mafia and Serial Killers will want to kill Diamond card claimers, but you can play off of this paranoia. If someone claims a Diamond card, subtly steer the conversation toward suspicion about that player, making them more likely to be targeted for the kill.
  • If you find out key information through your Diamond reveals, don’t make yourself seem like a huge threat. You don’t want to appear too powerful, or scum factions may decide to kill you before you’ve revealed enough.

4. Work with Townies (Cautiously) Without Fully Revealing Your Role:

  • The information you reveal might help the town, but avoid directly aligning with them, as that could make you a target for the anti-town factions. Your role is neutral, and you need to play both sides carefully.
  • If a town player reveals information that aligns with what you know from your Diamond card reveals, subtly support them, but don’t give away too much about your own role.

5. Maximize Your Visits Based on Context:

  • If you have reason to believe a player holds a Diamond card (perhaps they’ve subtly mentioned being a “holder” or their actions align with one of the card’s abilities), prioritize visiting them. The faster you can identify and visit Diamond holders, the quicker you can fulfill your win condition.
  • Look for patterns in behavior—players who are protecting themselves or others might be hiding valuable Diamond cards.

Managing the Flavor Soup Kill Threat:

6. Flavor Soup Kill Mechanic:

  • When Fulfiller Diamonds is active, the evil group party or killing third party can execute a flavor soup kill in addition to their factional kill if they correctly identify a player who holds a Diamond card. This adds extra danger to Diamond cardholders but also gives you opportunities to manipulate the game.
  • Encourage paranoia and doubt around Diamond cardholders. If a player claims to have a Diamond card, subtly raise suspicion about them to make them a target for anti-town factions. The fewer players that hold Diamond cards, the easier it is for you to visit and reveal information without drawing too much attention.

7. Use the Soup Mechanic to Create Confusion:

  • If someone has publicly claimed a Diamond card, steer conversations towards the possibility that they are bluffing. This can cause scum and Serial Killers to waste their flavor soup kill on non-holders, creating more chaos and distraction in the game.
  • You want players to be second-guessing each other as much as possible while you quietly work toward fulfilling your mission.

Timing Your Reveals and Achieving Victory:

8. Space Out Your Reveals to Avoid Suspicion:

  • It’s essential to not reveal your information all at once. Doing so might make you a target of elimination, as players may start to piece together that you are the one consistently gathering and revealing Diamond card information.
  • Use your reveals when they will create maximum impact and when it’s less likely that town or scum will immediately turn their focus on you.

9. Late Game: Secure Your Final Reveals

  • Once you’ve revealed information about two Diamond cardholders, your third reveal can be more strategic. Use it to either confirm information that will push the game towards a faction's downfall or clarify vital game details. For example, the Ace of Diamonds might be a game-changing reveal that exposes anti-town players in the last day’s voting wagon.
  • Don’t wait too long, though—if the game ends, and you haven’t achieved three reveals, you lose. Balance survival with the urgency to complete your mission.

Final Thoughts:

The Fulfiller Diamonds role is all about timing, observation, and subtlety. You need to gather information on the Diamond holders and reveal it without drawing too much attention to yourself. Use the game’s natural paranoia, manipulate players to focus on Diamond card claimers, and avoid becoming a target. With careful play, you’ll fulfill your mission and leave the game victorious.
