Terror Byte (Strategy for Deck Mafia)
The Terror Byte is a third-party role that thrives on causing chaos and disrupting the game, with the goal of being eliminated during the day to achieve victory. If the Terror Byte survives until the end of Day 5 without being eliminated, they lose the game. The longer they live, the more they can torment their assigned faction, a specific group chosen at the start of the game, and inflict bad omens.
Primary Objective:
- Goal: Be eliminated during the day (before Day 6) to win, causing maximum disruption to the assigned faction along the way. If killed at night, you lose the chance to create widespread chaos.
- Death Slaughter Mechanic: If you die during the day, you can weaken the Subvers or Farmers (innocents) by action-blocking two of them, or if it’s Day 5, you eliminate your entire assigned faction.
Unique Mechanics:
- Assigned Faction: At the start of the game, the Terror Byte is assigned a faction (Subvers, Farmers, or scum). Your abilities will target this faction, particularly aiming to harm them, while ensuring that you are eliminated during the day.
- Day 5 Threat: If you make it to Day 5, you must ensure you are eliminated that day to destroy your entire assigned faction and win.
Playstyle and Strategies:
1. Manage Your Survival — Avoid Night Kills:
- Your main challenge, especially if you are assigned to Subvers or Farmers, is surviving the night. If they view you as a threat, they may target you with a night kill, and you will lose without getting the chance to use your full potential.
- Days 1-4: Survive, but don’t overplay your hand. You want to create enough suspicion to be eliminated during the day, but without drawing too much attention that could get you killed at night.
- If the Subvers or Farmers believe you are a scum or another dangerous third-party role, they may attempt to kill you during the night. Be cautious and don’t act too overtly suspicious of the town factions early on.
2. Sow Discord and Harm the Assigned Faction:
- Suffering (Night Action): Use this ability to force members of your assigned faction (especially if they are Subvers or Farmers) into risky decisions. Giving them the compulsive visitor debuff makes them vulnerable by forcing them to visit another player, increasing their exposure to potential night actions.
- Against scum factions, "Suffering" can disrupt their plans, making it harder for them to execute coordinated attacks or protect key players. Against Subvers and Farmers, it can create paranoia, weakening their ability to organize during the day.
3. Push for a Daytime Elimination:
- Manipulate (Day Action): This ability lets you interact directly with members of your assigned faction, forcing them into actions that disrupt their plans. You can create confusion among the Subvers and Farmers, making them more likely to vote you out in the day phase. The goal is to appear suspicious enough to get eliminated during the day, but without claiming your role directly (which would result in a modkill).
- Keep up just enough suspicion, and make yourself a target for yeeting (elimination via vote) without being too obvious. The key is to get the Subvers and Farmers to remove you during the day, not at night.
4. Avoid Night Kills at All Costs:
- The worst-case scenario for the Terror Byte is getting killed at night. If you're assigned to Subvers or Farmers, they might view you as dangerous and try to kill you during the night. This is why you need to maintain a careful balance between appearing suspicious enough to be eliminated during the day, but not so threatening that you're targeted for a night kill.
- Stay under the radar at night and keep the focus on making the town vote you out in the day phase. If you do get killed at night, you only get to take one person down, which is far less impactful than your full potential when dying during the day.
5. Use Electronic Disturbance Strategically:
- Electronic Disturbance (Night Action, 1x Use): This ability is perfect for creating confusion and forcing the game in your favor. You can lock in votes, taking control of the narrative and forcing players to vote as you wish. This ability is powerful for pushing a critical vote and ensuring you're eliminated if needed.
- Since this ability limits speaking and forces voting, you can use it to manipulate the day’s events, especially if you're worried that players might hesitate to vote you out.
6. Electronic Shocks for Direct Control:
- Electronic Shocks (Day Action, 2x Use): This ability allows you to capture and imprison a player. Use this ability strategically to control key members of your assigned faction. If someone is actively working against you, imprisoning them can neutralize their threat or even extract something useful from them (like a card).
- Capturing influential players, especially if they are Subvers or Farmers, can disrupt their plans and push the town towards eliminating you during the day instead of risking further manipulation.
7. Avoid Modkills and Play Subtly:
- You cannot claim, breadcrumb, or soft claim the Terror Byte role. If you reveal any part of your role or try to hint at it, you'll be modkilled. This is particularly important if you're trying to get the Subvers and Farmers to eliminate you — they need to vote you out without knowing you're the Terror Byte.
- The goal is to make yourself suspicious enough to warrant a vote, without being so obvious that factions figure out your role.
Faction-Specific Tips:
If Assigned to Subvers or Farmers:
- Your greatest threat is being night-killed by them, so your goal is to manipulate them into eliminating you during the day. Avoid directly attacking key town members at night to reduce suspicion that could lead to a night kill.
- Use "Suffering" to weaken their resolve and confuse their roles. Force key players into making bad decisions, and create enough doubt and confusion to get voted out in the day phase.
If Assigned to a Scum Faction:
- The scum faction is often more focused on surviving, so they might hesitate to eliminate you unless they believe you’re a major threat. Use "Suffering" to disrupt their plans and "Manipulate" to create internal chaos. If the scum team is strong, they might try to keep you alive, so play the long game and force a day elimination when the scum feel they need to get rid of you.
Final Thoughts:
The Terror Byte is a master of deception and chaos. Your goal is to manipulate your assigned faction, survive long enough to cause disruption, and ultimately be eliminated during the day. The balance between drawing suspicion and avoiding night kills is key, especially when assigned to the Subvers or Farmers. Carefully use your abilities to weaken factions, create confusion, and push the game toward your ideal outcome — your elimination during the day.
And remember, if you are assigned to the Subvers, everyone in the game will be forbidden from claiming Terror Byte to prevent putting you in an impossible and unfair situation.
